    grldcheese:

It’s the beginning of another week and while it’s miserably cold outside, there are some great reasons to make the trek to The Construction Site for some great grilled cheese. Firstly we have our Monday student promotion with a classic grilled cheese, chips or salad and any Boylan’s vintage soda…

For those that love a little heat, here comes The Hotstepper! Just the right amount of burn, with some great flavour. Jalapeño Havarti, Genoa Salami and Honey Roasted Jalapeños on Panini Bianca

Sitting at my desk ,enjoying the newest grilled cheese feature from Construction site.  It’s called the Hotstepper and its created by your truly.  If you remember a few weeks back, I went into the place with Darryl and we both ordered the last special.  I stepped back and let Darryl make the new special (which was the awesome Southern Hospitality).  Well Darryl eneded up ordering the last special again and passed the honours of creating a new special on to me.  I mulled over the ideas I had and decided to go for something with a bit of heat.  Genoa Salami was a must, and we knew we wanted jalapeno’s, but we were thinking deep fried.  Thankfully the staff at Construction Site suggested honey roasted peppers (which they do themselves) and instead of pepperjack cheese, its a jalapeno harvati on a Bianca Panini bun.  The result is a perfect balanace of savoury and heat.  The Hotstepper is available with a dill dipping sauce that compliments the sandwich perfectly.  For more info on this and all their other delicious food (and locations) click on the source link at the bottom of this post.

First glimpse of Southern Hospitality, our Fried Chicken and Waffles, special grilled cheese!

Last Friday, my co worker and I went to Construction Site for grilled cheese.  The special last week was “The French Connection” which was basically a poutine grilled cheese.  We both chose to eat it but there was only one left.  As the deli’s policy dictates, whoever chooses the last special gets to choose what the next special will be (I have gone through this a 1000 times and they explain it better on their own tumblr).  Knowing that my co worker, Darryl, is a major foodie, i went ahead and ordered something else.

The hilarious part is that Darryl was visibily stressed out about his decision and how it would measure up against some of the previous specials (again check out their tumblr where they show how they make them and ocaasionally make epic versions too).  He bounced some hilarious ideas off of me which included an asian inspired sandwich and a crab melt.  I reminded him that people didn’t want to spend 20-30 dollars on a sandwich (they’re basically priced according to market price of the ingredients).

He finally came up with “Southern Hospitality” which is an awesome, soul food inspired grilled cheese sandwich.  2 pieces of fried chicken and Monterey Jack cheese between 2 waffles and grilled panini style, served with hot sauce and syrup.  Since Darryl picked the special he gets it free whenever he goes in to eat at the deli.

  4. so i am back at my new favourite place to eat at lunch, construction site, the grilled cheese place by my work that makes these awesome gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches.  i got the special again (avacado, red onion, jalapeno harvati and feta) but added bacon this time.  the sandwiches come with these rosemary chips, wasn’t a big fan first time around, but i am not hating….just think fries would be a better choice.  if u r ever in the yonge and eglinton area, try this place out, the sandwiches are awesome and the ingredients are fresh.  the menu is always changing, they remove poor selling items and add new stuff all the time and the special is always ltd time.  whoever order this weeks final available special chooses next weeks special.

  5.  So I went to the grilled cheese place by my work today and ordered up this weeks special.  And boy was it good…avacado, jalepeno harvarti, red onions and feta.  Their debit was down so I almost missed out until the owner just gave it to us for free.  Ummmmm, does anyone do that anymore?  Well count me in as a regular now, their food was good and their service is obviously great…I’m spreading the word.  If you’re ever in the Yonge and Eglinton area try out the Grilled Cheese restaurant and if you enjoy good food check their blog.
