Looking back at the best of 2011
3. In September I took this photo, the best I have taken in my short career as a photographer. Working with an amazing team; MUA Rav Brar, designer Imneet Sahota and model Claudia Stone. She is one of Canada’s greatest undiscovered models, she is beautiful, very friendly and professional. I have worked with many models and this girl is by far the best I have ever come across. We shot at the old Kodak 9 building which was a perfect backdrop. The results looked like something out of Vogue and surprised everyone involved, including myself. I could publish a 10 page spread from this shoot. I am planning a project with Ms. Stone for the spring and my goal is to top this shoot. Anything less would be simply unacceptable.
Photo Of The Week
For the second week in a row I am doing multiple frames for my photo of the week, but how and I supposed to pick one? I shot this on Sunday, I have been obssesed ever since.’
A couple of weeks back i blogged a “photo of the week” from my first time working with Rav Brar (recall; beautiful indian girl on a paino). That same day I had worked with this model Claudia. We managed to pull off some good shots, but I realized that she deserved something much more than a simple studio shoot. This girl can model like no ones business. Put her in front of a camera, shut your mouth and watch what happens. I decided I needed to make it up to her with a reshoot.
Again, we called in Rav because I trust her 100%. I gave her a guideline of what I wanted and she didn’t follow through. Instead she did something totally unexpected and MUCH better than anything I could have imagined. I also got in touch with my cousin, Imneet Sahota, who is a designer. She had shown me some of her samples from her collection and i picked one top and one leather jacket.
I had determined the location mid-summer. I ride the commuter train into work every day and I pass this old dilapited building. It’s graffitied from top to bottom and has so much character. Once upon a time it was part of a Kodak plant, now it’s a mecca for street/urban photographers. I visited it with some friends not too long ago (I will post some pic from that shoot, we went inside, top to bottom and took some amazing shots of the graffiti art inside) and decided it was the final piece of the puzzle for my re-shoot with Claudia.
The results were something unexpected. We shot for two hours, a total of 550 frames. Of those 550, I could easily have used around 300 of them. After hours and hours spent going through them I decided these were the best. The very first shot is my absolute favourite, I just don’t have words. I also included a shot from her first look, I just love everything about that shot. Her way the sky looks, the way she is posed on the barrier and the building in the backdrop. After this weekend I intend on making Claudia my muse so I am sure you will see more of her in the near future. Until then, enjoy these shots.
