Tomorrow, the most original and consistently gripping show of the new millennium comes to an end after 5 seasons. For the last time we will see the Fringe team save the world and the universe one final time. It’s been an amazing ride, going to places most shows would be scared of. Fringe re-defined sic-fi and TV in general, some of the best TV I have seen in my lifetime. Acted by a group of the most talented actors to ever work and always amazingly written. This was motion picture quality television and I will miss it a lot!
Single take video, looped and performed live. Its amazing what these guys can do!
Cover of Roll UP by Wiz Khalifa…enjoy.
I can’t believe i slept on this.
It popped up in my dashboard and newfeeds for like months. Then one day earlier this week I finally click and got hooked.
This is just awesome beyond anything, very talented and somewhat quirky, but in a cool, not annoying way.
Looking back at the best of 2011
2. The Weeknd broke onto the scene this year with a trilogy of underground albums released via the singer’s website. Abel Tesfaye’s falsetto is perfetcly matched with the sexy synth slow jams that tell stories of sex, lust, drugs, pain and regret. Of the three albums he released, House of Balloons is hands down his most cohesive and universally loveable album. It’s packed with one amazing song after the other. What You Need spawned several fan made video’s including one single take piece which became the unofficial official video. Wicked Games is so well sung and sad that you can hear his pain. Coming Down is a creepy slowburner about a drug addict losing his true love. The absolute best is The Morning where The Weeknd sings a rap song and spawned an amazing chorus “All that money, the money is the motive”.
His other two albums may not be as amazing as House of Balloons but they are still full of great tracks. The Zone (feat Drake), both versions of The Birds and the title track off of Thursday are pure brilliance. Echoes of Silence (EOS) is slower that the previous two albums but still has some sick tracks. The Host/XO and Outside are great. The album opener, D.D. has already become famous due to his pitch perfect rendition of Michael Jackson’s Dirty Diana. For me, the standout was the leaked single “Initiation”, a dark song that plays with Abel’s voice. It oscilates between fast and slow, high and low; seducing a girl to the dark side.
There is obviously a reason why fellow Torontonian Drake signed him to October’s Very Own label. Now that his trilogy is complete he can start commercially releasing albums and “go mainstream”. This guy deserves every iota of fame he gets. Soon the whole world will be singing praises for that OVO and that XO.
this movie totally ruined me for 2 days. i didn’t know what it was about when my 17 years old self picked it up at the store, by the end i felt exactly like these people did. years later i read the novel and it made me feel worse. I recently showed this to my 16 yr old cousin and he said he would never touch drugs again. i thinl ellen burstein and jennifer connelly were both AMAZING in this movie.
all time best show

Make sure, you are thirsty on Thursday.
Still addicted to this song after all these months.
This is so hilariously honest! Best way to market an R rated movie to teenagers.
Releases nationwide tomorrow; 11 11 11
Tarsem Singh’s Immortals is releasing at the end of the week. I have been waiting for over a year now, so I am very happy the release date is finally here. This is Tarsem’s first big budget studio film. His previous movies, The Cell and The Fall, are my #1 and #2 all time favourite movies. No one, anywhere in the world, makes a movie like Tarsem Singh, he is a visual genius. If you have read my previous entries here on Tarsem, you know how I feel about him, he is an unmatched artiste.
The cast is eclectic. Henry Cavil (the new Superman), Mickey Rourke, Freida Pinto, Luke Evans, Kellan Lutz and Stephen Dorff. The movie itself looks like the bastard child of 300 and Clash of the Titans. But the visuals in the trailer alone ensure this is going to be worth the ticket in 3D and if there is one director who deserves to shoot in 3D, its Tarsem Singh.
I will blog about this movie all week as a shame less plug, 11 11 11 check it out!
A miscommunication between the casting agent and Catinca Untaru led her to believe that Lee Pace was a real-life paraplegic. Director Tarsem Singh found that this brought an added level of believability to their dialogue, so he decided to keep almost the entire cast and crew under the same impression. Apparently it was hard to keep up the lie - a makeup artist walked into a room to find Pace standing and almost passed out from shock.
When you watch Fight Club, this is the FBI warning at the beginning of the movie. I have never fully read it till now.
One week till FRINGE returns! What the fuck happened the Peter at the end of last season? How they answer this question is going to be crucial to how well recieved this season is. At this point, I don’t doubt the writers of this show. I just hope it gets enough viewers to survive another season! Watch live all you American’s with your Neilsan boxes, this show deserves ratings!!!
15 years ago, the rap industry lost a poet, activist and social commentator. When Tu Pac died, caught in the crossfire of a violent East/West Coast rap war, the shockwaves hit every corner of the music industry.
Today new generations, who weren’t even born when Tu Pac was at the top of his game, know his music. It’s another matter altogether that he has continued to release music well past his death. That is an indicator of how hard he worked on each album, he would create countless songs and only a handful would make it to an album or mixtape. While some see the pothumous releases as opportunistic money grabbing from the record labels, others see it as a gift from a socially conscious man whose themes and music still resonate with our society.
R.I.P. Tu-Pac Shakur
I just died laughing. I didn’t realize that The Black Keys made a video for “Next Girl” which is one of my favourite songs off of the “Brothers” album (Sinister Kid is my fav song from this amazing album). As usual the video is a hilarious clip in the same vein as the comedic videos for “Tighten Up” and “Howling for You”. I watched a couple of times, once for the funny subtitles and once for the hotties.
The Black Keys are one of my favourite bands and “Brothers” is one of the best rock albums to come out in a long time. Their music is rock with soul/funk, it sounds dirty/scuzzy like retro rock from the 70’s. The album is full of fantastic tunes and worth the listen. Check out this video, and the other above mentioned clips.
i know my obsession with The Weeknd is really fucking annoying, my family has been telling me for the last two weeks. I have blogged some of the songs off of “House of Balloons” in an effort to wake ppl up to this amazing music. I cannot help it, I haven’t felt this way about music since Radiohead’s “OK Computer” or The Black Keys “Brothers”. This album totally consumed me, it is the best mix tape ever and plays like a complete album.
This particular song is the best off the album. It is so powerfully sad, Abel’s voice is such a force and its on full display here. His rendition is soul stirring and even the use of swear words seems neccessary. I cannot say enough about “Wicked Games”, its the song that Drake quoted on twitter and, as a result, the song that made The Weeknd famous. Give it a listen and try to resist its brilliance. I promise its the last song I blog off of “House of Balloons” but not the last The Weeknd song i blog, I am now a life long fan!
